漂浮在[南半球天空](https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap210101.html)的令人赏心悦目的暗饰带星云，是用双筒望远镜观测小星座——[苍蝇座](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musca)时的一个诱人目标。在煤袋星云和南十字星南部的富星区域，可以看到这片布满尘埃的宇宙云。[暗饰带星云](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Doodad_Nebula)在这张望远镜照片的中心绵延了约 3 度，其南端（右上）点缀着淡黄色的球状星团 [NGC 4372](http://spider.seds.org/spider/MWGC/n4372.html)。当然，漫游于[我们银河系](http://www.nasa.gov/jpl/charting-the-milky-way-from-the-inside-out)银晕中的 NGC 4372，是远在 2 万光年之外的一个背景天体，只是碰巧和暗饰带星云位于同一视线方向。轮廓清晰的暗饰带星云是[苍蝇座分子云](http://arxiv.org/abs/1507.03742)的一部分，但“暗饰带”这一更广为人知的俗名是由[天文摄影师和作家](https://www.minorplanetcenter.net/db_search/show_object?utf8=%E2%9C%93&object_id=dicicco) Dennis di Cicco 于 1986 年在澳大利亚内陆（Outback，一般特指澳大利亚远离海岸、人口稀少的偏僻内陆地区）观测哈雷彗星时首创的。这个“暗饰带”距离我们大约 700 光年，长度超过 30 光年。
